There She is
Written on June 26, 2026
I recently spent a Saturday afternoon at an Artisan's Market in a cute little Texas town square. One of my favorite things to do on a weekend is pick a quaint town within a 2-hour drive, have a nice drive, a lovely lunch, and a bit of window shopping walking around the downtown area or town square.
On this particular adventure I enjoyed some excellent Texas BBQ and I ended up doing a little more than “window shopping.” I do love to support local vendors.
As my husband and I were walking through the market, a vendor spoke to my husband and said, “I'm looking at your lady there and I think she would look great in one of my hats.” So of course, we stopped to try on hats. Initially I had no intention of buying a hat. The first two I tried on were not quite right, but the third one was very me. So I bought it.
The vendor asked if he could take my photo for his social media. I obliged. He took the photo and we moved on. I didn't think much of it afterward.
A few days later I got curious as to whether this photo of me was posted, so I search for his social media account and I found the post he made highlighting his day at the Artisan market along with the picture of me.
When I saw the photo my first thought was, “There she is.”
Not, “There I am.”
Not, “Don't I look cute in that hat.”
But, “There she is."
There is the one I've been waiting for. There is the woman who spent years fighting for herself. There is the woman who unraveled her entire life, stripping away identities that no longer fit, one by one, to find her true essence.
There is the authentic, free-spirited woman who feels at peace in her body and in her life.
There is Angela Dawn.
When I first moved to Texas I thought, “Texas feels like home.” Now I still think Texas is great, but I believe what I was actually experiencing was recognition of the feeling of home within myself.
And that I will take with me everywhere I go from now on.
Sometimes home is a place. Sometimes home is a person. And sometimes, after a long journey, you discover that person has been you all along.
