Time is Going to Pass Anyway

What growing out my hair taught me about health, business, and life

“Some things just need time.  And time is gonna pass anyway so why not make a positive change!”

These wise words were spoken by my daughter when we were having a conversation about willingness to play the long game with our health and wellness.

As I’m writing this, she is 28-years old and 7 weeks post-partum with her 3rd child.  Her goal is to regain her strength for the long-term after having 3 babies over the last 5 years. (She’s gonna need it!) I am 51-years old and my goal is to build my strength for the long-term to support my foundational health through menopause.  While we are in two very different stages of life, our goals are quite similar and can be approached as such.

What I’m sharing today is not really about building strength, specifically.  It’s about committing to long-term goals and understanding that some things truly just take time and consistency.

In the Spring of 2025 I decided I was going to grow my hair out.  I’d been wearing it in a short pixie cut since 2012.

A little backstory… In the fall of 2011 I lost about half the hair on my head in a 3-day period.  It was incredibly traumatic and a result of an accumulation of stress and living out-of-alignment for a very long time.  I decided to cut it all off at that point.  Eventually (years later) my healthy hair returned, but I never thought I would grow it out again.

Then one day I just decided I wanted my long hair back.  I knew it would be a solid 2-year commitment to grow it as long as I wanted it.  I knew there would be some very awkward stages to get through.  But I was willing to give it a shot.

Today, 15-months later, it’s nearly shoulder length.  The awkward phases are complete. It’s still not nearly as long as I want it, but I’m quite happy with the progress and very glad I stuck it out.  I know I probably have another year-plus to go until it’s reached my desired length.

Going through this process has given me a very tangible experience and lesson on commitment over time.  Hair takes time to grow.  Period.  There’s no way around that.  Yes, you can support the growth by making sure you’re getting proper nutrients and using quality hair products, but there’s nothing that replaces time itself in this case.  And I understand we are in the day and age where most women would just throw in some extensions and have long hair overnight.  I’m not that woman.

I’ve taken this lesson on playing the long game and applied to other areas of my life.

As I shared earlier - building a strong body that will support me through menopause.  I made a big change in the way I eat and exercise 5 months ago.  At first I wanted to see very quick results, but then I realized that in order for this to be a genuine foundational change, it’s going to take time.  Yes, I have to continue to show up for myself, but I cannot speed up the results.  Commitment over the passage of time is the only way.

The same applies to my business goals.  It’s more challenging for me to have patience here because I’ve already been in this for a long time - several years.  But if I look at it honestly, most of those years have been a “research and development” stage.  I’ve switched gears a few times… from holistic health to astrology to sharing my lived experiences and wisdom.  I've experimented with different business models, offers, audiences, and ways of showing up publicly until I finally landed on something that feels genuinely aligned.

I’ve only recently landed on what I believe is most aligned for me in all of these respects.  So it’s almost like the clock resets now.  Now I have to be committed to this system and strategy, consistently over time, and allow the results to show themselves.

As a Sagittarius Rising, I have a Capricorn 2nd house.  That means that everything I truly value in life, including making money, takes time and commitment. Capricorn is ruled by Saturn and Saturn demands long term discipline.  There’s no way around that.

And as a ⅓ Reflector in Human Design, I’m definitely going to do all the research, but the intellectual knowledge only becomes embodied wisdom through lived experience.   A Reflector’s experience of the passage of time is rather unique as well.

I’ve learned to trust in the wait.

And many times the results are better than expected.

To bring it back full circle, in the wise words of my eldest daughter…

“Some things just need time.  And time is gonna pass anyway so why not make a positive change!”
